I’ve just completed my first organised 10K run, and raised hundreds for the wonderful Wilmslow Youth charity in the process!
I’ve always wanted to take part in an event like this for a good cause. So when I saw a LinkedIn post from a charity just around the corner from me, asking for runners, I jumped at the chance.
Thankfully, they were glad to have me (they didn’t know how slow I am) and even gave me a fancy T-shirt to wear on the day.
With the support of family, friends, and some of my wonderful copywriting clients, I beat my fundraising target. Still, the run itself was more challenging than I expected…
Wilmslow Youth is a charity supporting kids aged 11-18 in my local area.
They deliver free counselling, groups, and workshops for those who need it — which plenty of young people do.
There’s also a Youth Café, which kids are invited to treat like an extra living room.
It’s fantastic to be able to support a local charity that’s making a real difference in children’s lives.
I’m a parent myself, and I remember how difficult being a teenager can be, so representing a charity like Wilmslow Youth felt especially worthwhile to me.
The Wilmslow 10K Race route is mercifully flat.
But it was still much tougher than I expected.
The run took place on a cold but bright Sunday morning in March. Hundreds (maybe thousands) of us set off from Wilmslow Rugby Club and I was quickly passed by pace setters, race contenders, younger and more sprightly runners, and many other people who’d done a proper amount of training.
But I kept a steady pace and in the final kilometre, I had enough energy left to go for a slightly faster run to the finish line.
I was slightly disappointed with my time of 1:12, as I thought I could at least break an hour.
I’d definitely like to take part again!
I raised over £250 with the support of family, friends, and colleagues.
I’m proud to say I passed my initial target of £250, thanks to everyone who donated via my JustGiving page (now closed).
The lovely people at the TBT Marketing agency, who I work with almost every day, were extremely generous and carried me to my target with several kind donations. I couldn’t have done it without them.

And thank you again to everyone who supported me!
